Californian festival awards ‘A Poetess’ from Iran

The California Women’s Film Festival in the US awards ‘A Poetess’ from Iran.

The California Women’s Film Festival (CWFF) in the US has awarded ‘A Poetess’ from Iran.

Made by Sahra Fathi and Saeed Dashti, the Iranian movie was selected as best foreign film at the Californian event.

‘A Poetess’ is about Sara who is hesitant to choose between aborting her child and immigrate, or stay in her country. Considering arguments and issues with her husband and by realizing the truth about him, she makes up her mind and plans for a new future.

The CWFF is deeply honored to celebrate women filmmakers, artists and writers by providing a showcase and networking forum in the heart of Hollywood.

The CWFF understands how important it is to hear and see the educated, entertaining and diverse stories of women from around the globe. Projects that are produced and/or directed by men are accepted as long as there is a lead female protagonist and/or the story is based around women.

The CWFF operates as a biannual event. Its winter edition will be held on 7-9 January 2022.

The awards for Best Feature Film, Best Short Film, Best Feature Documentary, Best Short Documentary, and Best Animation respectively went to ‘Free, Dead Or Alive’ by Erik Bernard, ‘40ish...’ by Traci Hays, ‘Survivors’ by Kay L. Sumner, ‘Achieving Greatness’ by Kristina Chatow, and ‘I’m Here’ by Jennifer Hathaway.
